How does Netkeen count "kills"?

A typical situation in some levels:
You open a switch for a bridge and other player falls onto a hazard and dies. How does the game know that it's you who killed the another player, not just hazard, so player falling into Tar in Keen4 Netkeen counts as YOUR kill because it's YOU who opened the bridge while other player was crossing it?"

I haven't played NetKeen, but I think since it would be an indirect kill, the game just thinks that the other player died on their own, so it will deduct 1 from the player who died's kill count. I don't think the game would have the capability to tell who flipped the bridge open.
