We have the source code to all 6 episodes now. Upgrading it to use VGA is absolutely possible.
I flermmed the plootash just like you asked.

It's not VGA, I'm using an extended EDESGA32 palette, but I agree, it's possible.

VGA lets you choose your 256 colors from a total set of 262,144, so I'm sure you could construct a VGA palette that is practically identitcal to the one you're using, and gives you even more colors to boot.

What I'm saying is that I'm using a limited amount of colors.
32 colors from the original EDESGA32 palette + a hand full of skin colors. ~40 different colors.
That's way more limiting than 256 colors. That's like 1/6 of what VGA looks like.
Yes, it's possible to use even more colors, but I like to stick with the palette.
Small and limited color palettes have a certain charm. I'd like to stick with a small palette.
Yes, it's possible that somebody uses 256 colors for keen remakes (and it's also possible that somebody uses even more colors than that!), but not me.
And It might look cool, or it might look garg, because the used colors might not be harmonious.

Pointing out that VGA can contain other pallets, or a subset of itself is like pointing out that a HDMI can display a resolution up to (7680×4320) and this contains VGA (640×480). It's like going to a coin collector and telling him, that a 100$ bill contains all the coins. Yes, I agree, but it's totally missing the point.

With the color pallet that I'm using I'm emulating the look and feel of an "Emberheart Games" Game.
I hope that helped to explain what I'm trying to achieve.

I think your palette is cool. What I am suggesting is that it could be reproduced in a VGA graphics mode using an upgraded version of the original Keen engine, if someone wanted to do that.

Yes, I love the color palette as well.
If you wanna point out that the sprites should get used in a game. I think the same and that's the goal, because I wanna see and play it. :)
I agree that VGA can display the EDESGA32 palette, like the original EGA sprites.
I know about the CK-Engines projects out there and using them is a valid idea. I'm a game developer who can code as well, but to speed things up I'm also in contact with other game devs who created other HD remakes evaluating the best solutions.

Hey,
sorry that I didn't see that earlier. Here's a little update from my side.
By now all actors of keen 1-3 (enemies, pickups, keen frames, doors..) are remastered.
And now I'm working on the 16x16px tiles of keen1 (already ~1/3 done).
Also I already remastered the title spaceship and the "one moment" picture.
For the moment I sadly can't share the new art, because I got asked for keeping it a bit a secret and will respect that.
Some other devs and me are still evaluating the best way to continue. We need to agree and align a bit,
but there's progress (coding side included). To sum it up: We can't wait to see the sprites in-game :)

About your question:
It's considered good manners to add a custom episode to every remastered classic title.
e.g.: Crystal Caves, Secret Agent, BioManace, DukeNukem and many more.
My original plan was it to add that new custom episode between keen3 and keen3.5 (keen dreams), hence the current working title 3.25.
But we had some discussion internally and might also do something else (not yet fully decided).
In other words the sprites I posted labeled as 3.25 are some ideas or a taste of what I would love to add.

I'm glad you like the sprites ;)
