Grand Intellect and Great Intelligence
Grand Intellect and Great Intelligence
I just finished watching the 2012 Dr Who Christmas special, that involves killer snowmen: http://scifijubilee.wordpress.com/2012/ ... e-snowmen/
Spoilers ahead.
It turns out that the snowmen are caused by a type of alien intelligence that feeds off the thoughts and desires of things. It is being motivated by the dark desires of some evil guy, but then he dies and the strange apparition survives him. It gets melted by the power of family love on Christmas. (Bleah!) but we're told that the parasite itself is probably not destroyed.
As it turns out what this creature calls itself 'rings a bell' and has been encountered before. Twice in fact. The Great Intelligence as it has called itself is a bodiless intellect that uses humans as hosts: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p011gps ... telligence It has invaded earth before and seems to be bent on its conquest, if not that of the entire universe.
So, Mortimer McMire, latest vessel of The Great Intelligence? Bears thinking about.

Probably based on the idea of evolving far enough, beyond the use of bodies to hold ones own essence and intellect. Perhaps it's been too long from when I last saw the Fithhhhhhh Elemennnt. The evil black orb in that movie falls in the same lines. But that thing possessed people with great power to do it's bidding. Possession was somewhat limited to having the victim hear it speak first.

oman, I just watched this and checked to see if anyone else had noticed. Pretty sure Moffat is a Keen fan.
Although, when were the previous encounters? Sadly it could work the other way.
Edit: Aww, 1962. Welp, guess I'd better go watch those episodes.
Incidentally, hooray for Jenna-Louise Coleman being a permanent cast member!
