3D Realms new Website and Anthology Pack

Post by gerstrong »

https://3drealms.com

They got a new Website and seem to sell a big package of good old classics.

For those interested I thought to point that out. Keen 1-5 are there as well in this package.

Dreams and 6 seem to be missing. Too bad...

And... what do you know! Keen 6!

Blargh, whoever is in charge of putting together/approving this site is a bit derpy - they've used K6 art for Vorticons: https://3drealms.com/catalog/commander- ... ticons_12/

Edit: wiivn has already pointed this out in another thread, but still relevant here.

Personally I wouldn't blame them for using K6 art for Vorticons. They needed something, and Vorticons never had any sort of box art at all as far as I know.

I agree with you to some extent - yes, it's a more gripping image than a Vorticons screenshot, maybe, but there was some perfectly acceptable in-game art to chose from, and if the new promo logo-with-characters graphic wiivn posted is anything to go by the group isn't afraid to draw Keen again. (Even if that IS GBC-style Keen.)

The most exciting day of my life was the one when I saw a screenshot of Keen1 on a floppy disk I was holding in my hand. It was all about to happen.

Heh, I get what you mean. I was coming from the perspective of the garghouse modern teen who is less likely to shell out for a 1991-looking game.

Hendricks posted about the issue and according to Fred, it is nitpicking down to the extreme :disguised http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showpost. ... ostcount=7

Uh? Using box art from a game that they apparently don't even have the rights to sell hardly seems like a trivial concern. Silly answer...

I don't blame them. I think they were in a hurry with a deadline to turn this website on and they didn't had enough time to make new art for Keen, especially considering how small their team is. So they used the available hi-res Keen 6 art instead. Coming to think of, I don't really mind now. It's cool to see the Keen 6 art in an official website even though it's not Keen 6. It blends well. Might even give them more sales for those who don't know the differences, but like the art. So yeah. 😂

I hope they're not upset by finding no bloogs in the games they paid for.

LGR made a brief review:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxCDCTZ-RJI

And Joe Siegler posted there:

"Great review. I worked at Apogee/3DR for almost every single one of these releases in some way. Glad to see it resurrected, and glad to see some love out there. Danke!"

"Thing is, I myself always wanted this anthology to come out - even going back to the old days. We never could get it done back then, I'm glad to see it finally happen!"

Wow, this looks very tempting! I already have Keen 1-6 and a few of those games, but wouldn't mind getting this collection. I'll consider it...
