SGA lowercase/shorthand

Post by StupidBunny »

In my bored, unsupervised free time at work I realized while trying to increase my SGA handwriting fluency (as one does) that the alphabet doesn't lend itself much to fluid handwriting, and that given the shapes of the letters, they were probably devised as print letters. So I fooled around a bit and came up with a handwritten lowercase form of each letter. Given that the Greek and Latin alphabets typically use lowercase forms based on script versions of the uppercase letters, I figured this should work for SGA too.

Here's some samples, using mostly familiar phrases.

That's a lot of unsupervised free time. Tom Hall needs to be informed so this can be implemented in the (eventual) release of the OFFICIAL TUIT!

While this is cool, I don't believe there must be alphabetical letters involved in it. Like o = z, r = x, or j = 3. Just no.

Gees! And I thought I had too much free time! All I do in my free time at work is obsess over seemingly complex mathematical problems.

I don't believe that those lowercase letters were meant to be alphabetical in origin, I think they are a natural transition into handwritten lowercase. Looking at the D, H, I, J, K, R and Z capital letters I completely understand why the lowercase symbols appear the way they do.

But Katakana has X = me.

And don't forget about Hiragana's n.

There's also an H. The n is not N, but =) and / is. Also, U is Hi. (someone should write U on the goplats)

edit: I think I confused N with Shi. N is actually h, but H is something else.

Something I noticed many years ago when making an SGA stencil was none of the characters have enclosed spaces. Your lower case versions have none either, which is good.

I also like your implied dots, especially in the case of the w.

Here's a challenge: do joined-up SGA ;)

I actually thought of something similar to cursive for Aurebesh from starwars, I never really got anywhere with making a different version that was easier to write, but the more I write, the more I develop a unique way of writing letters that's more efficient.

Huh, I haven't realized until now that n looks like a h. It's always looked like a n to me. :crazy
