I'll vote for anything that's the opposite of capitalist anti-socialism.

The extent or lack thereofof actual thought that can be seen in this thread as being put into deciding political alignments is perhaps the best argument against democracy that one could ever make... "hurr durr yay capitalism!" "no dats bad hurr durr yay socialism!" "yay murica!"...

A likely story, considering the president doesn't even have that much power.

What I would expect to see is more vetoing of the one-sided, corporate-lobbied legislation America seems to prefer today. As a result, more legislation would at least avoid screwing over low-income Americans, if not actively helping them. You'd see saner attitudes toward for-profit prisons (and the laws being written to try to populate them), education, and with enough support, maybe even a stop to the gerrymandering away of millions of votes.

Sadly, with America's attitude, I don't expect us to turn into Scandinavia anytime soon. I do expect Bernie to slow down the screwing over of the average American, and I see him as the best positive influence we could possibly get into office.

Yeah, you're not exactly helping what you're seeing as a problem by posting that. Also, wtf, I ask someone to back up their argument and my post is summarised as "no dats bad hurr durr yay socialism"?! I asked for information - I don't live in the bloody country so I don't know if the attitude toward Sanders is based on a real issue or just a hang over from the red scare.

I honestly don't know why anyone would be worried about having an openly socialist president. "Socialism" is all too often confused with "communism", and people need to stop acting like either of those are dirty words. This modern-day McCarthyism thing needs to stop.

We need to give more money to the poor, and everyone else needs to pay their FAIR SHARE!

I'm so sick of these stone-age loons whining about how "all applications of Karl Marx's theories have ended in failure"...

Like this stupid graphic I saw someone post:

OH RIGHT... Someone made a stupid comic with their stupid opinions so I guess it must be true, right!?

I know Bernie won't stab America in the back... Do you want to know how I know Bernie won't stab America in the back? Because of his clear allegiance to America and the American people. How could we possibly go wrong?

First of all, Ron Paul isn't running for president. His son Rand is.

Second of all, the last thing we need is another republican in office.

Your vote is best placed on Bernie Sanders.

Bernie:
-Never took money from lobbyists
-Wants to address the systematic oppression of POC in our nation
-Wants to raise minimum wage
-Will implement a tax to make the extremely wealthy pay their fair share
-Is strong in his Jewish faith, but certainly doesn't let it influence his politics
-Will end the systematic racism and oppression of minorities

Donald Trump is a clown, and I'm grateful to him for ruining the GOP's chance at ever winning. I like what Bryan Cranston said, about Trump "shaking things up" and raising some good debate despite the fact that he has idiotic policies and would make a terrible president.

BERNIE 2016!!!

America takes their right to bear arms far too seriously and now another 2 innocent people are dead because of it, if they want to reduce the carnage, simple follow Australia's example, the solution to the problem is not more guns it is less guns and stricter controls, what Australia did after Port Arthur in 1996 is what the United States should copy, but given the foolishness of the NRA & The Republican Party there is no gruesome crime that can ever convince the people to ever do away with their 2nd amendment rights!

In a way, their thinking is understandable. Basically, what it comes down to is that there's two ways to cut gun crime.

The first is to ensure as few people as possible have guns. You can't commit a gun crime if you don't have a gun. Of course, there'll be the odd member of organised crime syndicates, or even just a random nutjob, who manage to get their hands on one. But it'll be that much harder for them to do so; thus meaning cases where people actually have one are rarer, and thus, less gun crime.

The second is to ensure as many people as possible have guns. Very few people are going to pull out a gun and shoot someone in this fashion if they know every other person there has a gun and will get them too. Just like in the first case, there will be people who don't care (particularly in incidents like this one where murder-suicide is the intention). But again, it provides a discentive.

The current situation in America, however, is "you can get one, legally, but you're not obligated to have one, you might not be allowed to take it everywhere, and getting one is going to cost you an arm and a leg". And that's the problem. Pick one end or the other.

There are a few problems with the 'as many guns as possible' route.

Firstly having a gun doesn't mean being able to use it; best bet is many people don't want to murder, even in self defense. Of those that do not all of them know HOW to use a gun or can use it accurately.

Secondly people under attack aren't sensible. It is often said that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a with a good guy with a gun, but experience has shown that when suddenly attacked many people panic. This is why police and military personal have specific training for those situations. A common point raised by 'false flag' allegations is that there were people with guns there who just ran. You may think you'd be the person who calmly and accurately shoots back but science and history says that no, you probably wouldn't be.

Thirdly this assumes that most gun crimes now are rational, that they are committed by people using guns to get money. Many, maybe most gun crimes are crimes of ideology and passion, the jilted lover, the desperate drug user the gang war. They are committed by people who are not going to be deterred by the possibility of death and often in home environments. If a woman must bath with a gun to ensure her safety that is not freedom.

Of course the other route has its flaws also notably the classic 'If you make gun illegal then only criminals will have them.'

Because they're just that... Rights.

Not "privileges".

There is no tragedy great enough that will ever justify taking guns away from responsible gun owners, no matter how much the media sensationalizes it.

Dylann Roof clearly stated in his manifesto that he was outraged and inspired by the Trayvon Martin case when he shot up that church, and Bryce Williams clearly stated in his manifesto that he was outraged and inspired by the Dylann Roof case and wanted to avenge the Charleston victims.

Do you see the pattern her?

America doesn't have a gun problem, it has a media problem...

Race-baiting killed that news reporter and cameraman by outraging the mentally unstable, impulsive, gay, black, disgruntled man

And how do the president and Hillary Clinton respond?
By tweeting "We need to stop this madness... BAN GUNS NAOOOW!"

You don't have to be a "conspiracy theorist" to realize that this is all by design.

The people in power of our government are doing everything they can to abolish the individual rights of the states as well as our bill of rights. Part of that is introducing a federalized police force, which is why the media is attacking police officers so much, and disarming every citizen so that they may be easier to control.
