Keen YouTube Videos

Post by TheBigV »

I managed to beat the Pyramid of the Forbidden on Normal mode without saving. Probably not as impressive as what Grimson had managed before, but I hope you still enjoy the video.

I started trying to speedrun Insalevs 3 a few days ago. Hopefully I'll have some footage to show within the next month, it's a pretty great mod for speedrunning.

Wow, that's really good, TheBigV! That was entertaining -- I actually felt tension in some moments. It must've taken a while, I know I attempted this level at least 20 times, and that was on Normal without saving too. I also attempted to get all the points and drops, though, including the hidden doughnut in the switch puzzle room. The plus side to all the repeated attempts is that I got a bunch of lives thanks to the Lifewater Flask at the beginning and the drops sprinkled all over! I really don't like doing the part where you ride a platform and there's a spear that could get you -- it's gotten me many times like what happened to Nisaba. I also can't stand that room with all the platforms and a few Skypests (second-to-last before the room with the janitor) -- feels like there's so much randomness involved!

I'm looking forward to your speedrun, Pandakeen!

It's fascinating how different play styles can be between people. Like the way you carefully and methodically go through the level, TheBigV, for instance waiting for the Licks to fall before moving up the steps in the first room, or waiting to be certain a platform is in a good position before jumping, is very different from how I play. I usually go through that first room at top speed, guns blazing. Like so....
TheBigV must have a lot more patience than I do. Probably has a lot better odds of survival that way. :dopekeen

For real. :dopekeen I wasn't expecting to make it that far in my run. I'm beginning to suspect that the trick is to wait on the front of the platform (the left of it, on the way over) like TheBigV did.

Wow proYorp, that video of yours was rather intense, but cool to watch while it lasted! It would be really cool to see someone do a successful speedrun of Pyramid of the Forbidden on hard! Imagine that -- all the possible close calls while Billy puts the "Blaze" into his journey throughout! My playstyle is kind of like a mix between yours and TheBigV's. I sometimes blaze through (such as in the staircase at the beginning with the Licks), usually if it's an easy part or I'm doing the umpteenth run through a level I just died in many times just to get back to the part I just died at. In some parts, however, I act more carefully, such as the Skypest chamber in the end of the second room as well as the entirety of the third room. I also tend to get all of the points, but if I keep dying many times, I usually skip some of them, especially the difficult ones. There's definitely a higher chance of surviving if you take the patience -- as the old saying goes "Slow and steady wins the race!"

Since we're talking about Keen YouTube videos, I like your playthrough of the Dead in the Desert secret level on Hard:

https://inv.riverside.rocks/watch?v=vyVcx_pFF7w

This is also pretty tense and exciting! That taunt in the end was pretty funny! :lol At times, I had a hard time convincing myself you didn't use God Mode (you didn't, did you?).

I'm usually much more cautious when playing something for the first time. Then my main goal is to just explore and experience everything. I don't usually care about points that much on the first run.

Grimson apparently did this before (which is what TheBigV was referencing in the OP). Unfortunately all the video footage seems to be dead... viewtopic.php?t=1247

Haha nice. :D

Oh! I suppose that is my video, but what on earth is this site you have linked to? :eek I was very confused for a minute because I have never uploaded anything to any such site. Is it just a YouTube player? What is it for?

I thought it was quite amusing when I realized I could stand under the Lavaworm at the end without getting hit, so I had to have that in there. :lol Nice that you noticed that. I'm glad you liked it.

I did not. :p The point of the video was to demonstrate a strategy on how to make it through the level without saving, so other people could learn how. (And, I won't lie, it was also just to show off a little. ;) ) I suppose I could upload one of my failed attempts if you want to see that lol.

Man, it's too bad the video had to end up like that. From what people have said, it sounds like it could be a great movie climax! Did anyone ask Grimson if he has a backup?

Oh, that site I linked to is called Invidious. As you said, it's a YouTube player. What makes it unique, though, is that you can download videos, at pretty high quality actually (given the video is high quality to begin with). Plus, there are no ads, no tracking, and no Javascript (or so it claims to be -- it does seem to load faster for me than YouTube). The GitHub page has info regarding its features. Do note that it can be pretty unstable. There are multiple instances (domains) that Invidious runs on, each of which are either hit-or-miss, with the one I linked to being the most consistently good one at the moment.

Oh wow, that's actually really useful. YouTube is such a heavy site and it takes forever to load for me, but this actually loads fairly quickly. (Though it does like to crash often... but it's still faster than YouTube!) Also seems good for if I don't want certain videos cluttering my YouTube history and recommendation algorithm lol. Thanks for sharing this! :D How do you find all these interesting sites?

The answer: Surfing the web.

Usually the best place to find sites is to explore Wiby (discovered this through a YouTube video) and links pages on personal websites. For Invidious, I think I found it through Spyware Watchdog, on the YouTube page.

Back to Keen videos: I just looked at this neat video about The Impossible Four-Shot Challenge, created and demonstrated by hairmonster12:

https://inv.riverside.rocks/watch?v=FPmDlBwbjQ4

Has anyone else here attempted this challenge? I probably should try it out someday. :)

EDIT: Just saw this neat video, even if the outcome was a bit expected (I like the OH NO! part, though :lol ):

Links for those who feel too lazy to look it up:

https://redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=nRI35yeu_NE (alt link, "invidious-us.kavin.rocks" seems to be working right now)

This is neat indeed. I wonder if he'll play some other Keen mods.

It's been a couple months since I tried to speedrun Insalevs 3, but I created a youtube channel yesterday and I have some footage of a fast route for the first level.
