Happy New Year to one and all!
Beautiful Auld Lang Syne. Scotland really has earned its association with New Years Day. Personally my ancestry has a significant Scottish and Ulster-Scottish component which certainly doesn't manifest itself as having any living close relatives there but nevertheless we - particularly my Dad feel a great connection with the place. So much so that my Dad in fairly recent years established a tradition of preparing a Hogmanay feast of bacon and lentil soup, Beef and Wine "Hogmanay Pie" with neeps and tatties, and the most excellent dessert of raspberry cranachan. He's not big into scotch but a little drop goes in the Cranachan. Truly beautiful food, affirming my belief in Northern European food aa being among the great cuisines of the world (see also my GODRP mod).
Ireland, for our part, have done less to enrich this time of year but no January should commence without U2's New Years Day, with its snowy video (
https://youtu.be/jeYCyCaK_5k) evoking Soul Monster's snowy landscape. Edit: the film "The Dead" is also worth watching in early January.
I would look forward to seeing your modding contributions Soul Monster, as clearly you are very into Keen and this community which is a wonderful thing!
Glad you liked the Auld Lang Syne I shared! This is like the 4th year in a row I've gone back to it. Like Proyorp said, it's also fun to hear about what other people in the world do for New Years. I also haven't heard of many of these dishes, so I had to look a lot of them up (as well as the ones used in the mod you mentioned) and they sound pretty good. I've also seen some of the foods people mentioned in other threads from way back when, and I could see myself making some of them just to see how they are. I didn't realize that there were so many members on here from all around the world, and that Keen had such a fanbase on a worldwide level.
I also listened to the U2 song you shared, and yeah, New Years Day it just snowed all day and that's pretty much how it looked.
I'm glad I've got people interested in my potential modding contributions, and that I am able to be a part of this awesome community!

thanks for sharing your stories, guys. Your words really touched me. And the songs you've shared just put me into that melancholic mood...
I can't really explain why but I somehow like to share this song with you. This tune captures quite good the mood you've put me in, I guess.
Space Oddity by Choir, Choir, Choir (a tribute to the great David Bowie):

That means a lot, Nisaba. It's great that we are able to touch so many others through our stories, and that song you uploaded...what a beautiful tribute!

My God, this last year was
intense. I think I've faced every single one of my own personal demons and some I didn't even know I had. But I think I'm winning. I think I'm finally winning.
...
and now that i say that i hope i dont instantly get smacked into february wheeee
I know just how you feel. I too had to confront all of my personal demons and fears, and am doing what I can to overcome them, but I don't know if I'm winning right now. At least you seem to have the upper hand on yours now.
I think I know exactly how you feel. I recently discovered something that has resonated with me more than I can describe and it has been an enormous encouragement. I really have to call it a miracle due to the extremely up-to-chance and unpredictable manner in which I found it, and the timing of when it showed up, when I really needed that encouragement....
You've got me curious as to what it is. It's nice to know that we both got something to keep us encouraged and optimistic when we needed it.
I'm a bit confused, what do you mean when you say you didn't know sites like this existed, but you've been lurking for years?
Yeah, I can see how that part may have confused some people, but to clarify, what I meant was that for years I had been lurking solely for mod updates and downloads, as well as to read what people had to say about them. Coming off another forum that no longer exists, where activity was practically round-the-clock, I wasn't used to people posting at a slower pace, or having the slow periods this site sometimes has, so for a while I thought the site was dying because it seemed like so many were leaving, but since then I've seen that I was wrong. Also, I wasn't paying attention to the general chat, where it seems like people were engaging in some interesting conversations and antics at times, and on the previous forum I was on, that's where I spent most of my time. I feel like I'm rambling here, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that I didn't realize people still engaged in conversations like this online anymore without a bunch of drama, elitism and obnoxious photos. This place feels like an oasis of the internet that hasn't been touched in all these years.
I don't like to forget about things as the song suggests, but I always hope to move forward.
I'm the same way. I'm a firm believer that in order to move forward you have to remember the past. New Years is a time where I do just that. It's a time when I reflect on the year's events, remember some of the good memories I have, and contemplate where I want to go in the future, and what I hope to achieve.
