I've been listening to a lot of Can and Pink Floyd. Both highly original and innovative acts.

You and I have similar taste in music, Paramultart. I also think Adore is a wonderful name.

Arcade Fire is okay, I liked Month of May most, but I expect it to be the least typical song for the band.
Kinda like he lied about death, by stars... it's really not like their other stuff, which is much more mellow.

A lot of my favourite songs are religious, such as Holy Holy Holy or Amazing Grace. But I want to keep this on the subject of music, not start a huge theological argument. Yeah, I like Bach too. One of my favourites is Spike Jones. Anyone heard of him?

What about:
Can [Hell yeah! "She brings the rain" is my favourite song and listening to "Aumgn" alone in the dark is the most frightening music I know. ]
Pink Floyd [I like Atom Heart Mother, A Saucerful of Secrets and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, but later on they don't give me much, and even the early stuff I can't always listen to.]
Jethro Tull [These I've actually seen live, which wasn't that impressing, Aqualung is of course a good album, but they produced a lot of junk too]
13th Floor Elevators [Oh yeah.]
The Velvet Underground [Of course, Lou Reed is the master of simple but effective music, I think without him we wouldn't have great acts as Iggy Pop or David Bowie]
Syd Barrett [see early Pink Floyd]
Nick Drake [He's good, really good, only the good die young seems true a saying in his context]
Herbie Hancock [Of course, one of my favourite Keyboarders (in a general sense), others are Bill Doggett Ramsey Lewis, and Jack McDuff (and I know all of them have nothing in common, I just felt reminded of them)]
Emerson, Lake and Palmer [A bit too artificial and complicated, not enough feeling in general, but it's okay]
or
Amon Duul [Amon Düül II, I haven't been listening much Amon Düül I. I love Tanz der Lemminge and Phallus Dei.]?

I don't know how a German man such as yourself gets into such crazy shtuff. :p
I figured as much. And to answer your question: The magic of the internets.
Other weird stuff I like and only know from the internet is for example Cem Karaca ve Apaslar (Anatolian psych rock!). But I listen to "more normal" stuff too, like Joe Jackson lately, DHeadshot introduced me to.

@scarlet: I like the Stars song, cool solo.

Bumpage.

I've been listening to 100.3 The Sound's A-Z essential rock the past few days, hearing some awesome songs and bands I hadn't heard before.

Status Quo - Pictures Of Matchstick Men
This song is blowing my mind right now, regardless of how simple it is.
Studio version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kG-mU7wgW4
Live in 2009 and still kicking ass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iTV-Jgw ... re=related

Grass Roots - Midnight Confessions
It was nice to finally get a name for this song and band I'd remembered as a kid.

Loverboy - Lovin' Every Minute of it
Pretty much just awesome 80s rock from I band I hadn't heard of before.

UFO - Love to Love
Previously I'd only heard a few UFO songs and wasn't impressed, but now I'm interested in checking them out further.

I've been watching Breaking Bad (awesome show, btw)
recently and the song DLZ by TV on the Radio was in one of the episodes. Hadn't listened to them in forever so it was nice to hear something new.

I've known about this one for awhile but thought I'd post as its sure to garner some fans here. Glorious Dawn by Symphony of Science ft. Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking. Pretty beautiful.

The song "We Are All Connected" is also awesome.

Also, apparently one of my favorite bands, Abney Park, released a new album last night; I didn't even know they had a new one in the works :confused Ordered mine :D This is the only song I could find from the new album, its okay, the didgeridoo is the best part.

Edit: Just got to the R's in The Sound's playlist. Remedy by the Black Crowes just played and damn, this rocks so much harder than any Black Crowes I've previously heard.

Thanks for posting "Pictures of Matchstick Men", I wouldn't have remembered that song if it weren't for you.

Believe it or not I listened to that the other day for the first time in aaages. What I've got is an MP3 from my Dad's record that I converted to CD about 5-6 years ago - little did I know at the time that the tape recorder that I had to use (we now have better systems for this, but not 5-6years ago) as an intermediary records songs too fast so I'm used to a VERY fast version!
Camper van Beethoven also cover that - not toooo bad.
