The LIVE music thread.
Just saw The Jonesez and Wolf & Cub live at a free concert.
IT WAS WILD!
Wolf & Cub were playing some new content too it seemed - still a bit different from their old stuff but still amazing. Probably more radio-friendly.
The Jonesez are really good live too - this was the first I head of them.
Tulip, I know you've got back onto the live music scene recently - who has everyone seen recently?

I saw Nine Inch Nails in St. Louis on August 20th, 2008.
I had front row "seats" that were exclusive to fans, and I was literally within a few feet of Trent Reznor himself. My loud and obnoxious hooting and howling made a small imprint in NIN history, as I can clearly be heard in the bootleg live album before the first song starts. I vividly remember standing next to the man who was recording it.
Several songs in, a fight broke out between one of the fellow members and some worthless piece of sh*t that plowed his way to the front. I got caught in the middle of it, had my ribs f*cked up and wind knocked out of me, and wound up retreating from the pit to the bleachers because let's face it, I was a scrawny little p*ssy.
It was total bullsh*t. Those seats were reserved for fans who paid extra to get close to the performance. Then you get your violent mosher types, who come there just for the loud noises and to cause trouble and spoil the experience for actual NIN fans who were hoping catch mist of Trent's perspiration and went the extra mile to do so.
I wish Trent was cool enough to pull a Dave Grohl and stop the show to have that scum kicked the f*ck out.

The only band I ever saw was some local screamo band at the community center years ago which, to my memory, sounded much like this. I'm not sure why we were there in the first place.
One of these days I'd really like to see musicians I actually like in concert, but no opportunities have come up as yet.

That's a shame about your NIN concert, some people really overstep the boundaries at these gigs. If you want to mosh around to that extent, chances are you aren't gonna spend much time watching the band intently, so let other people stand nearer. I have been very close to the front at several major acts and it's a wonderful experience, which no-one should be allowed ruin.
Hmm now, the only gig i've been to recently was Little Dragon... never heard them? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_ceBAchLcI
I've really cut down on attending gigs in the last few years owing to monetary issues and the fact that good popular music acts are dying out. Of course, in the classical music world exquisite performances continue to occur... as I type Beethoven's 6th is being performed an hour's bus ride from my house!
What musicians would you like to see, StupidBunny?

The last big concert I went to was Foo Fighters when they were in St Louis in September last year. The show was pretty much off the fucling chain.
As for local shows, I went to see Cage the Elephant, Joy Formidable, and Sleeper Agent as part of a week-long string of concerts sponsored by my favorite radio station back in December. What a week that was!

Both my best friend and my oldest sister were at that very same concert._mr_m_ wrote:The last big concert I went to was Foo Fighters when they were in St Louis in September last year. The show was pretty much off the fucling chain.
I wanted to go, but didn't have the dough. Grohl is the man.

I KNOW, last I had a talk with ckguy, and was surprised he didn't even know who that was, also after he read wiki saying that 'he doesn't know every member of Nirvana'.Paramultart wrote:Grohl is the man.
Glad to hear they're still rockin', one by one was a freakin good album, also pretty bold to try another style after so many years.
You crack me up little buddy!

I keep not getting around to posting it in this thread somehow, but ...
Genius314/Kdash and I are going to see Andrew Bird in New York City on May 5. It's going to be awesome. It will be the first time I or he have seen Andrew Bird, and also the first time I've met anyone from here face-to-face. Yay platonic dates with internet friends. \o/

bumping this thread because I went and saw Yes in concert two nights ago and it was basically the best thing ever. Even without Jon Anderson, they had this new guy who could have been a clone of Jon Anderson raised for the job, he did a crazy good job as a replacement. Geoff Downes (keyboards for the Buggles) did okay on keyboards too, I guess. Chris Squire, Alan White and Steve Howe rocked as much as ever.
Anyway it was pretty dang great. They closed with Starship Trooper (except not because they came back on for an encore and played Roundabout) and the Wurm is always ridiculous good live, I was almost disappointed when they came back on for Roundabout which was good but not the Wurm. Geoff Downes pulled out a keytar just for that and it was stupid in the best possible way. Worst part of the whole thing was probably the tracks from their new album and even that wasn't awful. Highlight outside of the Wurm was probably And You And I because I goddamn love that song and experiencing it live was just something else. I think I almost teared up.
so anyway yeah that ruled

Yes are still going? Great!
Sounds like a pretty sweet concert too! Did they sound like an older band?
Slightly Off-topic: By clone, do you mean physically as well as talent..ly...ly? I'm always amazed how bands manage to put up look-a-likes as replacements. Wolfmother for example: Either a load of curly wigs or very good scouting.

If by "sound like an older band" you mean "sound like they're getting old", then by no means, they were performing as tight as ever. As for his appearance, he wasn't exactly a dead ringer. I guess the cloning process hasn't been perfected yet
