Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion Technician: The first album in a long time to actually make me lol. An achievement in weirdness. Didn't discover this group till recently, but they're pretty awesome.

sunn O))) - White2: Maybe my favorite sunn O))) album now, especially the last track. Progresses from foreboding to bleak and dirty to utter desolation by the end, and listening to it made me conjure up an oddly specific narrative about an apocalypse being brought about by the Sun dying or something. Good listening.

Deep Purple - Made in Japan: Well actually I got this one like a year ago but it's probably the best live album I've ever heard in my life and I think it deserves a plug here. I've been getting into a lot of Deep Purple (and some Uriah Heep also) recently. Definitely underappreciated among the early-70s hard-rock/heavy metal acts.

I've only heard one sunn O))) track, but it was neat. I'll have to get my hands on White2.

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973)
Mandatory listening for all.

Re: Butthole Surfers, I've been meaning to give them a listen for years. Mainly because of their mention in the RHCP's 'Deep Kick'. Is the above mentioned disc the right one to start with?

I only have that one and Independent Worm Saloon (also great, though a little more tame and accessible). I would definitely recommend the above though, it's like nothing else I've heard.

Tony Patterson & Brendan Eyre - Northlands (You fellows gotta check this song out. A hazy kind of album.)

I always enjoyed the notion of how the Keen/ID golden era coincided fairly precisely with the Grunge era... I thoroughly enjoyed this tweet...

The Smiths - Rush And A Push And The Land Is Ours

I don't know why I never got into the Smiths that much before... I've known about them for a long time, but only recently started enjoying their music.

:)

I really love the Smiths and some of Morrissey's own solo stuff also. Great songs (there are many) include "How Soon Is Now", "Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me", "I Know It's Over", "Suffer Little Children", "Pretty Girls Make Graves", "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" and many many others.

I looove "Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me".

Honestly, I can't believe how hugely popular The Smiths are. I just went to like them on FB, and was surprised to see 4 million likes.
