Childrens Books

Post by Paramultart »

It seemed appropriate to make a thread where you post picture books from your childhood.

I vaguely remember that story...I think it's one I read in school some number of times. I recall really liking it, though not much else besides.

This one my dad read to my sister and I a lot way back in the day...

I can't stress enough how much I loved this little piece of book. Still have it somewhere.

I can't find the cover that my book has, but it was a favorite of mine from about age 7 up. (I always especially liked where they fool the dog into barking and running around the house.)

Of course now it's a rather poor TV series.

Hey, hey. Here's a series of childrens' books I grew up with, by C. W. Anderson--and it even sounds Keen-ish!

Back in those days, I had no idea Commander Keen's real name was Billy Blaze.

The best thing Dr. Seuss ever did, in my opinion, is "There's a Wocket in my Pocket".

On another unrelated note, I have an extensive collection of rare Halloween books dating all the way back to the 50s.

The reference wasn't the copious amount of dying?

I must say, this is a good book even if it wasn't one of my childhood.

Heck yes! Those were great books, Ceilick!

Here's some more favorites of mine... Such as the Tim Burton-esque Angry Arthur:

(The ending of that one is quite bleak... This kid is comparable to Mortimer McMire.)

This one helped fuel my fascination with monsters:

I actually forgot about that book until I found an old picture from '94 of my father reading it to me:

These ones I didn't discover until I was a father myself, but I love them nonetheless:

Seeing as its Halloween, these are next on my "TO GET" list:
Ghost Moon
The Curious Little Witch
Goblins, Ghouls & Ghosts
Moonlight The Halloween Cat
Ghosts in the House
Wobble The Witch Cat
In The Haunted House
By The Light of The Halloween Moon
Molly's Monsters
Goodnight Goon
The Very Worst Monster

Oh so many memories...

Oddly enough we had a creature catalog too, can't remember the name but it was a big, bound artsy book with pictures of things wearing children's skin and so on, more a collection of illustrated myths from around the world. It was probably a valuable book once, but we let it fall apart and go to waste.

I had one that was specifically about Werewolves.
Even as a child, I greatly preferred the bipedal ones with the big snouts.
Despite my love for classic horror cinema, I detest the wolfman to this day.

You should try to find that book again. Things like that could be a good reference for designing new enemies for mods. :)
