No, it's a mod of episode 1 at the moment. But I've heard there's legal issues if you try to release a modified EXE file. (Keen Mods don't do that. Only the game resources are changed, and the EXE is changed only in memory at runtime.)

Yeah, lawyers are already preparing a lawsuit against your mod right now. Stop it immediately. :crazy

Ok, I take it back. It does sound pretty silly when I think about it. (I already told someone from 3DRealms about the mod last year, and she didn't seem to take legal offense to it.)

Anyways, here's the Cosday 2015 Alpha Release of Cosmo II:

It should be possible to make a CKPatch for Cosmo at any rate.

That'd be awesome, so I could translate Cosmo as well.
Yeah, piece of cake!

Weird how game publishers in the 90s didn't foresee how the games would be used 20 years in the future. All that legality was for pirates trying to copy and sell their hacks... which no one would know about if they operated under the table :pirate

Ah yes, sneakernet piracy, not yet quite a dead art. I really don't think that there will ever be attention from the legal profession cast on the efforts of the PCKF community in this day and age. After all, legal settlements would surely be miniscule especially considering how small the audience is and the lack of profit being made. Our consistent caution with regards to intellectual property in our online rhetoric would only further strengthen a PCKF member's case, by showing our belevolent intent.

I love the image of kids in primary school passing around the list of Keen6 baddies in the '90s. Of course they would have most likely been hand-drawn images. Bewildered teachers would have confiscated these and were most likely outraged. Of course, in my own school, free usage of the English language was forbidden so this would have been an additional source of trouble.

You know... the mac OS version of Prince of Persia required the manual to decode the copy protection potion puzzles, and to this day there are still no scans of the manual or even an answer guide on the internet. You need a physical copy of the manual to finish Prince of Persia on the mac :'(

That's strangely awesome in this day and age of downloading everything.

My copy came with a 'trainer' that skipped the list. My friend was very vocal about this fact. I played Keen 6 instead of attending some kind of graduation party. (Mind it was only across the street so I didn't miss much.)

I'm looking at the player (Cosmo himself) sprites as I'm (re)drawing them, and I'm wondering if a new player mechanic could be in order (simple, but maybe effective).

How would you like Cosmo to be able to crouch in order to avoid enemy projectiles? (as well as look downwards to see what's under his feet)

Levellass rigged a nifty crawl patch for me:

Big fan of dodge actions. Could make or break puzzles, too.

Not exactly what I meant. This instance wouldn't have to be programmed in. I think only the height of the sprite would have to be adjusted.

Ah ha! That's a right good idea! I like it. Should work well. Shrink that collision box and kabam! Cosmo will be ready for NetKeen.

The only side effect is that Cosmo wouldn't be able to move while crouching. (He could move, he'd just lose his crouching stance.)

Although I don't think that'd be a problem. It would only be for dodging a projectile that you would only be able to dodge by jumping otherwise.
I.E. a quick crouch.

Actually a ducking mechanic (Such as in Keen Dreams) works well; it's an advantage, but you can't just use it all the time, you have to sacrifice, plan.
