Since this is the day Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure was released in 1992 (ask Levellass, she suggested it be called "Cosday"), I'm releasing an alpha test of "HUMANIZED!!!"
As such, it's in a very rough stage at this point. There is some new music, new graphics, and the original Cosmo 1 tileset is completely gone. (Not finished, as there's some portions I need to fix.)

This is a truly stunning piece of work, T-Squared, and even though it is not finished, you have already set the bar high in what is hopefully going to be an expanding field of modding.
The interface modifications including the title and intro screens demonstrate that you are among the community's most capable pixel artists. The desert background is also delightfully well-drawn. Well done! Hopefully we will see this project completed. I would rank Cosmo right up there with Keen - even if its worldview was less immersive than Keen's to me and others, it is a truly wonderful game that gave me one of my most enjoyable christmas holidays during my late childhood.

Thank you!Benvolio wrote:This is a truly stunning piece of work, T-Squared...
Well, I kind of cheat with my art, because instead of going pixel by pixel for a few pictures, I draw it out with Adobe Fireworks (which is a vector/pixel mix program) and then apply an EGA palette using Photoshop)Benvolio wrote:...The interface modifications including the title and intro screens demonstrate that you are among the community's most capable pixel artists.
The sprites, however, need a finer hand, so I do those pixel by pixel.
Also, the text modifications aren't really that difficult. Some of the menu options are still there. I just removed the text in the menu.
I was actually afraid that the background would hurt some people's eyes because of the fine pattern, but I guess the pixels are too large for that to happen.
(BTW, did any of you check out the 2nd bonus stage?)

No. I think I've stuck in one level, which is impossible to finish.
Whaat? There are palettes in PS? Where?
As for the mod, I'm enjoying the graphics the most. The game feels really fresh and way more different from the original episodes, which is good. Unfortunately, the levels are too plain for now and buggy. By the look of the progress you posted in the topic, I thought this have much advanced, but I guess that's to be expected from an alpha.

You're probably trapped in level 4. That's all right. I didn't really finish anything past that, or put an exit object in that level. (But you can get to one of the more completed bonus levels by collecting all the batteries at the exit in level 2.)wiivn wrote:No. I think I've stuck in one level, which is impossible to finish.
A custom EGA palette I made using "Save for Web & Devices" in PS.wiivn wrote: Whaat? There are palettes in PS? Where?

I know GIMP has nice palette support, I've been using it frequently. It's nice PS has it too.T-Squared wrote:A custom EGA palette I made using "Save for Web & Devices" in PS.wiivn wrote: Whaat? There are palettes in PS? Where?
Everything's looking good T^2
In the first level, are you supposed to fall through the ground on the first hill?

No, that's a mis-built hill.MoffD wrote: In the first level, are you supposed to fall through the ground on the first hill?
I have to make some easier-to-build slopes, because it's hard, with the method that the engine uses; Flagging a tile as "sloped" doesn't actually make it sloped. It makes the tiles adjacent (1 tile above, below, left and right), if they're solid, sloped.

I couldn't get past that hill. I didn't realise there were further levels!!
I don't think it detracts from pixel artistry to use modern tools such as higher colour depths, any more than I think that true pixel art is lesser than mosaic art. I have done so myself. But it still takes a lot of manual input to make it look right on the 320x200 stage, where you can see every pixel up close with the naked eye.

Let me put together a temporary level fix. (Temporary 'cause that desert hill doesn't look correct to me.)

Looks cool! Particularly liking the bridge level. Keep up the good work.
