well... first of, none of the gems is hidden behind walls. the moment you reach a room with a gem you will instantly notice its presence.

the yellow key should be pretty straight forward to find. you only need to flip a switch and cross a bridge. what might be a bit harder to detect is the door that leads you there. have you searched the forest area above ground with care? There is a lot of water and two bridges to cross...

there is also a blue and a green key to discover. but that's for next time

How to get the red gem in the Atroxian Mines level? I have tried to no avail, even found one secret entrance to the wall, but it was only a short niche, it didn't lead me to the gem.

It's very close to the start, under a red light, underground. On the sides there are two small pits with crystal spikes and lollipops (before I grabbed them ;)). I haven't noticed any other one, and I have already made the loop almost back to the start - you exit through a door, open a bridge and are very close to the start again, if you climb down a pole, there is the place where you need to use the red gem. But despite having made a loop around the so-far-accessible part of the area, I haven't managed to take any gem. :(

you are in fact very close. so you've managed to make a loop back to the start. that's good. make sure to loop back the door on the right hand side (there are two doors that allow you to make the loop back to the start). now search this area for secrets before open the bridge to access the gem holder next to the pole...

Edit: I'm at the Atroxian Base level and I'm stuck. I got to the room with coloured pilars, went right, I even got the rainbow star by entering the wall... But moving there without seeing Keen is very hard. Is entering the wall only for getting this bonus, or should I also get to some room with something more useful? I'm just at an early stage of this level and have no idea what to do, it seems like I don't have access anywhere yet.

you wanna keep in mind that If you edit previous posts pckf members don't get notified about your updates...

ah, yes. I remember this level. it can get quite confusion at points... thing is you need to remember those coloured symbols like triangles, rectangular and circles and stuff. also it would be best to keep track of where what is located which isn't easy at all. there are however arrows that indicate the correct path, but unfortunately they aren't always up to date. so yeah, a lot of searching and backtracking is required...

One thing that's been on the KeenWiki page for this mod for a while:
[Atroxian Realm] was dubbed "the largest Keen mod that's been made to date" by its author, a claim that no-one has yet disputed.
Let's dispute this already.
I don't currently have all the mods on my computer, so I'm just going off of KeenWiki numbers. AR has 25 levels. Most of which are huge. There are other mods with about that many levels but they aren't as complex as the ones from this mod. So yes, I would say this is the largest mod to date.
I mean if we're going purely by file sizes it's up for debate. However, patch files combined with original game data would take up more than just game data already compiled so I don't think that would be a fair comparison.

Levellord's Shadow Keen 2 has 39 levels... I'm guffawing at the thought! We need our Kiwi contingent to return and push out the boundaries of Keening once more.

Ah yeah, forgot about that. Considering the Shadowkeens were each made in the span of like a week, I still doubt they could be considered larger than AR. But I never actually played them so idk.

I guess the real question should be, what is the largest mod that's actually of a somewhat respectable quality? Because when I see ShadowKeen2's page on the Keen Wiki and every single vote for it has been a 1-star rating, "professional" is not the first adjective that comes to my mind.

Planet Cloudius IX has 36+ levels. Though it is based on Commander Keen, he is not the protagonist of the mod, nor does the game use the original Vorticon or Galaxy engines. It uses a new engine called Keengine. The game plays very similar to the original Keen games. Some might call this a mod of Keen, others might not. You decide.

But still to this day, Atroxian Realm is still my all-time favorite keen game, even above the original games.

Hmm... "largest" does not necessarily mean "best." :p Quality vs. quantity.

Atroxian Realm may be the most professionally produced that a mod has ever been, I would say, in terms of game development and design.


Edit: I have been informed that this is the 10000th post in Release Forum. Nice.

Hello. There is a bug in Security Layer that lets you finish the level early. In the middle building the second green square bridge stays open even when it should be closed. Because of that you don't have to use the switch two floors above it. As long as you don't use that switch both green square bridges can be open at the same time (after you pressed the first green square switch underground) and you can bypass the first red gem door completely. You can skip collecting one of the red gems and finish the level early.
I stumbled upon this, when I played the game when it was first released, but since it seems to be still in there (now playing Unofficial Bugfix Release 1.4) I now signed up to report it. It definitely seems to be unintended behaviour because it allows you to skip a big junk of the level.
